Choosing Tools to Solve a ProblemA deliberate progression in conceptual development, the purposeful use of representation, and explicit instruction about making connections among representations exist in Math Trailblazers to develop mathematically proficient students. Students have to be able to make connections among representations, and then choose the appropriate tool and strategy to be able to solve problems efficiently. Students in a Math Trailblazers classroom regularly discuss and compare strategies. They create, use, and interpret multiple representations. They repeatedly make connections among these strategies and representations to deepen their mathematical understanding. Math Trailblazers materials present these strategies and representations in clear, explanatory, and engaging visuals in helpful ways that are not busy and distracting to students.
